usbscan.sys to resolve HP PSC 2170 scanning problem

I searched my system drive and found usbscan.sys in:
C:\windows\system32\drivers
C:\windows\driver cache\i386\sp2.cab

However, I think my scanning problem has to do with this file. From what I
have found in the microsoft KB 320549 document and others, it seems my
problem has to do with this file. Can I reinstall this file from my disk,
or does microsoft need to send me a "new" usbscan.sys? THanks

How to restore a file from the Windows CD:
Click Start, Run. In the Run box, type "msconfig" without the quotes and
press enter. On the "General" tab, click the "Expand File..." button.

File to restore: usbscan.sys
Restore from: Point to the Windows XP CD's "I386" folder
Save file in: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\
