Installing Windows Live mail usually imports any accounts you already
have set up in Windows Mail.

If you need to ask for more help for Windows Live Mail, you'll get
better answers in newsgroup:

Success! I uninstalled both KB905866 and KB946041 and am now able
to access
my email addresses.. I think the problem lies with KB905866 but
will do some
further checking until I know for certain. In the meantime I'll add
these two

back to

Sorry about the previous non-post.
I had this happen like 2 months ago and uninstalled the KB933928 and it
worked. Now, it's happening again (started like 3 weeks ago) so now I have to
look for another update to uninstall. I found the 2 listed and uninstalled
them but this didn't do it. I tried to go backwards(as suggested here) and it
does work. I'm still looking for a new solution.
I started the live mail but it's very confusing if you are used to a certain
format. I have like 5 different email addresses and it was sorting them with
folders under each one on the left side and was so long. It was just more
confusing and I remember something that I used to use didn't work but for the
life of me can't remember what that was now.
Anyway....I just had to switch from outlook (used forever) to windows mail
because of outlook not working with vista and I really don't want to keep
switching and creating everything all over again every time something doesn't
work or there's an update that screws something up. Please....any other
suggestions? Thanks.

It is not viable to keep uninstalling updates for Windows. Some of
those updates are important security fixes.

Windows Mail is being abandoned by Microsoft, and will not
receive any more fixes. You might as well see the handwriting on
the wall.

You can configure Windows Live Mail so it is more like OE and WM.
I have 10 accounts, and here's what I have done to reduce the folder
clutter:

Keep all your account folders collapsed so they only take up one line
in the folder list.
Then I use 'Quick views' to keep track of "All inbox", "All sent items",
and "All junk e-mail". You can customize Quick view folders, which
then simulate the single set of folders we are accustomed to
seeing in OE and WM.

Versions 2003 and later of Outlook work well under Vista. Versions
2000 and 2002 run, but with some problems. Do you still have the CDs
to install them from and an unused license?

Outlook Express isn't the same program, though, and won't run under
Vista.

Steve!

I can see why pnd and others are reluctant to change from Windows Mail to
Windows Live Mail. I just did it, and the experience was about average,
which means only a moderate amount of pain and frustration. All of my
contacts survived, but all of the contact groups were empty -- they clearly
showed that they had (0) contacts in them. I am amazed, Microsoft sells me
Windows Mail, and six months later stops supporting it, sends out Vista
updates that prevent Windows Mail from working properly, doesn't tell us what
they've done, then scolds us because we uninstalled the updates that
clobbered Windows Mail.

Not sure why you think you lost anything. WLM only copies, it does not
remove the original Windows contacts from C:\Users\username\Contacts .
WLM can also do a manual import from Windows Contacts.

Same thing happens with the various versions of the Mac OS.
If everything always stayed the same, there would be no progress.

I can't believe Microsoft did it again. About a year ago I downloaded
upgrades to XP and totally messed up my email program Outlook Express at that
time. I worked on trying to get it to work again for months. I did get to the
point where I could send messagtes from Outlook Express but have never been
able to receive them in that program again. I bought a new laptop and thought
that using Windows Mial would eliminate that problem, but it didn't. Now I
have to use Windows Live Mail to receive my messages. Microsoft tells me it's
a problem caused by my provider and my provider says it's a Microsoft
problem. Since I was able to use Windows Live Mail I just gave up with that
problem but now I have this new problem because of the updates. Why does
Microsoft send us the updates unless they've been proven to be problem free?
Now I'm right back where I was when Microsoft messed up my desktop. Where
does it end? I'm not a computer Whiz and get frustrated with these problems
that cost us time and aggravation. Does anyone have a fix for this that
actually works and doesn't take a computer whiz to repair? What can we do to
correct this? Has anyone come up with anything yet? Is it safe to uninstall
all of the updates? Please help.

Obviously progress is not always good.
Do you know how do we uninstall with VISTA? I don't see the install and
uninstall programs in the control panel when I go there. Is it hidden?

G

Gary VanderMolen

Look in Control Panel (Classic View), Programs and Features.

What do you want to uninstall? Some Windows apps can't be uninstalled.

G

Gary VanderMolen

Those who have tried the TweakUi workaround say that it
doesn't work. I realize you don't care since you are removing
Vista, but others who are thinking of dual-booting (perhaps
so they can continue to use OE) need to know this.

Hockeynut: I have been using Windows Live Mail because Windows Mail sucks
bigger than Outlook Express. Unfortunately, I get the same error message in
my Windows Live Mail that is is "unable to choose recipients". It seems the
new message crosses from Windows Live Masil to Windows Mail because the error
message pop-up says Windows Mail at the top.
We should not be surprised that MS puts out software under continual beta
testing and only applies fixes when the paying public screams loud enough.
To Gary: Why don't you tell us how toi fix this garbage rather than moaning
about short-term fixes. If we cannot use our Windows bundled email then it
may be time to go back to court to straighten this mess out again.
