"Unable to choose recipients"

In the middle of today, even though I have been using Windows Mail throughout
today, all of a sudden, I get the "unable to choose recipients" message when
clicking the To option in a new email. However, if I open "Windows
Contacts", select a contact, and click "E-Mail", then a new message window
opens, with the contact name prefilled in the To field, which is good (the
long way). Why, seemingly randomly today, am I getting this message when I
click the To option in a new message window? Thanks.

The contacts folder is occasionally changed to another type of folder, which
causes assorted problems with contacts. If you suspect this has happened,
start Windows Mail, the, click Tools, then Windows Contacts, then right
click in the empty space under the right end of the toolbar in the contacts
window, then click on Customize This Folder, then the triangle to the right
of the folder type, then Contacts, then Apply, then OK, then close the
contacts window.

Also, make sure you don't type any part of the address before clicking To:.

I've found that 9 out of every 10 Windows Updates fouls up the Select
Recipients option. Why Microsoft continues to issue updates that aren't
compatible with Windows Mail stumps me. I always manually update one update
at a time, see if it's messed up Mail, and restore the system if it has.
What a pain!!!! Does anyone know how to actually get through to a live
person at Microsoft and ask them why they can't program an update that's
compatible with their own mail program?

You must have something else going on.
I always install every Microsoft update, yet have never had that
problem, and I think that is the norm for most people.

If Windows Mail does not perform well for you, I suggest upgrading
to Windows Live Mail:

Check to see if any updates were automatically downloaded. If so, I'll about
bet that's the problem.

I had same frustrating problem. I have Office 2000. Have gone into Outlook
setup (running disk again) and selected "do not use outlook for receiving
emails. I use another program" or something similar to this. I have now
got my addresses back in Windows email

Thanks for that tip. Until now, we had assumed that Outlook 2000 needed
to be uninstalled in order to clear this Contacts problem.

Hello there. I am having continued problems with this. I have Vista and had
Outlook 2000 installed. I was going back and forth between Outlook and
WinMail...depending upon which one was giving me the least troubles. I
finially read enough posts that said I should get rid of Outlook 2000 and so
I finally did. I also re-installed AVG without installing the the E-mail
Scanner part, so that wouldn't cause any problems either. Then, I checked to
see if I needed to delete the KB933928 and it was already deleted. I looked
for the KB931768 and found that one and deleted it. However, I still am
unable to click on the "to:" and bring up my list of contacts in a new e-mail
in WiinMail. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Try this:
Go into the C:\Windows\System32 folder and delete or rename wab32.dll
and wab32res.dll.
