the message could not be deleted

No, system restore does not bring back lost data.
If you want a backup of your mail, I suggest you save a copy of
the following directory to someplace like Documents:
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\.

You can backup your messages first, as Gary indicates. See
www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm

The database can be rebuilt without much trouble if needed and you can drag
the old messages back into WinMail if you lose anything once you backup.

I give up. It has been a constant stream of Windows Mail issues since
purchasing the new computer with VISTA.

I'll use webmail until Windows gets it right.

You can try by right clicking it and mark it as read and the try to delete
it. It worked for me. Good Luck

I have a simple problem. Message that has been moved to another folder
appears again in the inbox with no context which means it won't let me delete
or move it as there is nothing there. Anybody any ideas????

You know I have the same problem, the ghost of the e-mail is still in my
inbox....When I try to open the ghost there is a message that it has
encountered an unexpected error. (Well, I should say, you have been
deleted)..... I cannot delete it and I have tried all of the things that have
been posted in here....HP told me to reinstall and return my computer to the
factory settings...which would mean reinstalling xp and reinstalling my
upgrade to Vista....Needless to say, I now I have two ghost e-mails and the
new ghost is from HP.... I would think that there would have to be a better
way....
I see lots of people are having the same problem with Windows Mail....are
any of those automatic updates responsible for this.....I never had this
problem before.....Has anyone out there had any
success?................................

This is usually caused by a message being deleted from the WinMail message
storage without WinMail's knowledge so that the database still thinks the
message is there. This can be done by the user or by another program,
usually an anti-virus or anti-spam program.
