Strange IE looping problem

I have encountered lately few times problem that IE or sometimes explorer
starts looping some function. For example: I browsed some web site and
cliecked back button to go previous web page. IE didn't go previous page,
instead it jammed to current page. My soundcard started giving continously
clicking sound; IE gives one click when it goes to previous page. I could
not get previous page and also clickin any link on current page failed. When
I closed IE and reopened it and tried to do some thing again, everything was
ok. No problems. That has happened few times during last month on arbitary
web sites. I think all of those web pages are using http meta refresh
functionality.

I just encountered same kind of looping with Explorer. I first used Open
with for one file and used hex editor to open the file. Ok for this far, but
when I closed the hex editor, Explorer started to continously load that file
to my default text editor! I couldn't close those zillions editor windows
fast enoungh, so I had to use reset button to reboot windows. After reboot
everything was ok.

So what's going on? Has some of latest windows or IE fixes caused that or
what? Has anybody else seen this kind of behaviour? I'm using Windows XP Pro
with sp2 and all latest fixes.

The problem here is that some web-sites auotmatically forward you to another
page...i.e.

You click on a link that sends you to PageA. PageA re-directs you to Page B
which is the one that gets displayed. Now when you hit the Back button, it
tries to re-load PageA which has a re-direct to PageB which causes PageB to
be displayed again.

When this happens to me, I can usually "skip" over PageA by
"double-clicking" on the Back button.

When I got that looping problem, I tried to select other previously accessed
pages from that back button list, but nothing worked. IE just couldn't go to
any previous pages. It wast somehow stuck on that pages and was continuously
relaoding that page. And what's more, I had disabled meta refresh from IE
settings, so that IE couldn't automaticly redirect to another page. The
problem started when I clicked link from google search results. The link
lead to html page, which contained basically only meta refresh command to
another page. As I had disabled meta refresh, IE should have given me empty
page and stopped there. Instead, it started looping and loading that empty
page. When I closed IE and tried again, there wasn't any problem anymore.

Only if the redirects are being implemented that way.
E.g. if they are being implemented by scripting you would
also have to disallow scripting to prevent them.

Closing IE after changing options is always a good thing to try.
It appears that not all the options which should be qualified with
"(requires restart)" are documented that way.
