IE opens on start up

I have windows XP Pro and have downloaded service pack 2 in October. This
problem with IE started last week. After my Toshiba Satellite notebook
starts up and my desktop loads, internet explorer opens and looks for a web
page http://?????????. ; I do not know how to correct it. I do not want
explorer to open. Where can I look to disable explorer from opening to the
page above or a blank page? I do not see that IE is pinned to my start up. I
have tried spybot and Norton's virus scan and everything checks out ok. If I
close this page and close IE, it will open to my home page whenever I decide
to surf the web.

Eliminate any scumware.
CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of these programs ,

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
