What kind of a DSL connection do you have? Most (but not all) are
always connected and no dialup is necessary or possible.

xp has to "dial" a dsl pppoe connection. if there was a router, then it
"dials" it for you and keeps it on. if yours is always on without a
router then it is set the way I need.
