SSDP Discovery Service causing problems

I have been having problems getting the task bar to load programs and the
processor has been bogged down on startup to the point it was taking 5 min to
boot to where I could use the computer. I am using a HP laptop w/AMD 2500+
processor, that runs @ 1.86 GHz under normal conditions. However, it slows to
540 MHz during boot up when SSDP Discovery Service is loaded. The computer is
clean, I have 1024 Mb RAM of which 64 Mb is allocated for video. When SSDP DS
is running, only my network connections load in the task bar, and that only
after 5 minutes boot time. Event logs show a number of warnings, but none of
them have any info when I use the link to go to Microsoft about the problem.
Anyone know what this service is for and how to repair it?

Go to Administrative Tools:Services and disable SSDP.

I found that SSDP was preventing WinDVD from operating, so it was disabled
on my system without any noticeable adverse consequences.

If you search the newsgroups for SSDP, you may be able to find http links
that have a better explaination. It was a number of months ago.

I was able to find a few articles on this service, but no one seems to know
why it goes spastic. I did disable it along with Universal Plug & Play. So
far, all seems OK. One problem I have now is the processor speed still gets
reported @ 519 MHz if I check it while running Anti-virus. Got a ways to go
