"some of the files could not be found"

That is the case LAR. Helpful insight.

The Word document is open. Close the document, then re-send.

Hi there,

I am trying to send a word file that contains song lyrics to a member of my
band. I am using Vista and Office Home & Student 2007 and each time I try and
attach the file it states that

'Some of the files could not be found, and could not be attached to the
message. Would you like to send the message anyway?'

Could somebody spread some light on this for me please. I am not using
office for a commercial purpose at all

This is definitely osmething with Vista as I had the same problem, but on
doing a search I have found the answer just here.

I found that jimmuh is right. I used to run into this all the time with an
older computer I had, and I always forgot that you must close Word before you
send a file that is open in Word.

This has been frustrating me all afternoon! Is this something new with Vista
mail? I can't remember this ever happening with Outlook Express... or am I
remembering incorrectly?

Had the same problem. Email wouldn't send because I still had the Word
document open. Closed it and it went off perfectly.

Thanks to all concerned!

Julie.

James Here! make sure the document you are trying to send as an attachment
is not in use by any other program. If it is being used by another program
the email SP will not attach or send the document. When you close it, it
will send it!

Judy writes : Thankyou James - I did what you said and it worked; looks
better than me sending a 2nd or 3rd email; the same, with attachment, because
it wouldn't work; now I know what to do.

I've just migrated to Open Office, and thought that the problem was in
Writer. After reading this forum I closed Writer before sending the email and
- hey, no problem!
I think the error dialog box in Vista should be more explicit; I couldn't
understand why it couldn't find the file that was open in front of me!

Hal9000 is right. Just close the open files you are trying to send. I never
would have figured it out!
Thanks Hal.

I suppose I am not the first to comment on this: Why does Vista have to be
different? Now we have to close a file before we can attach it - What a
rubbish idea! What was wrong with how we have done it for years and years?
And Vista does not tell us what we are doing wrong and it is supposed to be
state of the art - what art?
Thanks anyway everybody for helping us all.
Cheers

Thank you all for the help.
Is anyone from MS reading this and making the relevant change to sending
attachments!

Probably not.

It makes sense to me that you would close a document before attaching it to
an email to send. Otherwise you could send an unfinished document. Even
with programs that let you attach an open document, it attaches the document
as it is at that moment, unfinished or not. If you continue editing, the
edits are not in the attached file.

I agree that conceptually it seems cleaner to close a document first
before sending it off.
