Software for Visioneer scanner?

Hi All,

Is there any "universal" software which could be used
with the scanner Visioneer OneTouch 8700USB on XP
instead of PaperPort Deluxe and Visioneer OneTouch?
What TWAIN could I use with it?

I'd be very grateful for any help.

MS OFFICE has software for scanning, as does Photoshop
[including Elements] and there is OmniPage. Just what do
you want to do?

Thanks for your reply.

I want to able to make a scan preview, then change parameters
to get the best result, save it as .pdf or .tif or .jpg file.
I also would like to be able to "connect" buttons I have on the scanner
with some functions like "Scan", "Print", "OCR" (I have software for OCR),
"Send to e-mail" etc.
Simply I'd like to be able to do the same what is possible with the PaperPort
and OneTouch but using another software.
What about the TWAIN? Is there any which could be used regardless
of scanner model?

I would think that only the drivers for the scanner will make the scanner's
function buttons, well, function.

You don't necessarily need to use the applications bundled with the scanner
to scan though. It looks as though at the Visioneer website, they have a
d/l for drivers only also, without bundled applications.

It would most likely be a TWAIN compliant driver, which would show up in
any program that has a TWAIN compliant 'acquire' function...like PhotoShop
or PSP, or many others.

What does d/l stands for?

I've tried OmniPage. It's able to scan but in fact it uses the TWAIN form
the software I got with the scanner.

Yes, it uses the twain drivers specifically written for your hardware
scanner device.

The TWAIN portion of the software is system-level drivers for the scanner
that allow it to be used by many Windows programs, just as printer drivers
are.

Nothing you can do about that.
