Shutdown Problem

I'm having a problem trying to shutdown my notebook. When I click on the
option to shutdown, it tells me it is shutting down, then just stops on the
'Windows is shutting down...' screen. I have left it for hours and still
nothing. I've run a full virus check with AVG, full Spyware sweep with
Spysweeper and Defrgged the machine. I've also run a programe called
CCleaner (see www.ccleaner.com) designed to remove random rubbish from the
machine, and nothing. I've nothing in start-up that shouldnt be there.

I have searched this forum, and can't seem to find an answer.

I know there are some clever guys and girls out there, would one of you
PLEASE help me before this thing becomes the most expensive frisbee I have
ever owned.
