Dell XP Pro Service pack 2 tries to shutdown

Howdy. I have a user with a new Dell XP pro machine (Service pack 2)
that once or twice a day attempts a shutdown. It is shutting down as
if the user requested it. Nothing is crashing that I can see. Nothing
in the event logs. Since Office apps are usually running the shutdown
fails to complete. I've run a virus scan, system restored to a date
when the shutdowns were not occurring etc. Can anyone tell me how I
can go about troubleshooting this? No message appears telling the user
the machine is shutting down. Firewall is running. It's not an
automatic update and I've turned off all reboot for system failures
and services failures. Very strange indeed. Thanks.
