roxio cd creator 4

I recently upgraded to XP but am having trouble with cd creator 4. I have discovered it is incompatible with XP and cannot be updated. I deleted the file but still get this error message on boot up.

Hi,

Deleted or uninstalled? Can you uninstall XP or did you make the process
irreversible by not using the backup option?

Part of the problem is that you should have removed Roxio 4 *before*
upgrading, and there was a warning about this incompatibility from the
upgrade advisor before you started. I would *suggest* that you uninstall
WinXP at this point, then uninstall the Roxio software (reinstall it if
necessary if you simply deleted the program), then redo your upgrade.

Alternately, a dirty fix may be to start/run msconfig and see if anything on
the startup tab loads parts of the old Roxio software. Disabling these may
help, but I wouldn't count on it as a permanent fix.

Roxio makes a remover program called RoxioZap. It
cleans up remnants of Easy CD Creator from your system.

Hi,

It is NOT true that ECD Creator will not run on WinXP. The "Direct CD"
application will not run but ECDC ver. 4 will run. Alex Nichol, MVP and frequent
contributor at this site, has offered the solution below. I have it running on
my system (XP Home) and it works just fine. There is an update for version 4
which is needed - get it at Roxio's site.

ECDC, ver 4 WILL work on WinXP. (Direct CD and Take Two don't)

First, go to Roxio and get the latest update patch for ver 4 and save it.
Next, you need to remove what you have now, then install it again and (this
is important) do NOT elect to install Direct CD nor Take Two.

Also, after setup prompts for a reboot, DECLINE and apply the latest
upgrade patch for ver 4, then you can let the system reboot when prompted.

This works fine with XP as long as you understand that version 4 of Direct
CD and Take Two do not work with XP but ECDC does.

If you want these, then you will have to go to version 6 of Roxio, or go to
Nero, etc.

Once again, credit for this is due to Alex Nichol. I have done this for four
friends myself and passed it on to others here many of which reported success.

Good luck, Fred

Without the "direct CD" part of the program, you may as well be using the
Windows XP supplied CD burning utility!

Hardly.

Depending on a CD-RW for reliable
data storage is foolish in any case.

Just Google for "CD-RW" and "lost data"
to see what I mean.

And XP "native" support apparently
can't do multisession, which EZCDC will.

Crusty,

I never had any desire to use Direct CD as I write DATA files to CD's for my
utility programs, Zipped program install files, and the like using unique
folders for easy identification. I can easily access these files from anyone's
PC when needed for repairs, assistance, etc. For those that don't use Direct CD,
or have Roxio, one needs a "UDF" reader for access - just not needed at all, in
my opinion.

My data backups are created every evening to a folder on my second HDD, Full BU
on Sundays, Incrementals daily. Sunday night or Monday AM, I write the Data BU
folder named "Data-0704" etc. to CD using ECDC in Data mode. No hassle, no
problem; readable anywhere, anytime, which is important to me.

I can't imagine any benefit to Direct CD at all. If it is for "quick" file
transfers or storage, I use my second HDD and my Kanguru 128 MB USB 2.0 drive.
Direct CD is simply of little value and I don't know why you would want to use
it all.

Just another point of view, Fred

EasyCD 4.03 and higher will make the trip, and should be upgraded
immediately to at least 4.05. The UDF writer will not work. Any good upgrade
advice on WinXP will also tell you to uninstall any third party burning apps
first, then reinstall them after the upgrade.

Now, also read the OP's statement: "I deleted the file", this tells me that
the program was not properly removed, causing even more trouble. As this is
not likely to get better, but only worse, the best chance of correcting it
is to revert to where they started and redo it correctly before things get
worse and the option to revert no longer exists.

Uninstalling leaves registry entries 'orphaned'. To tidy up, get a
registry patch file, cdgone.reg, from
www.aumha.org/downloads/cdgone.zip, extract it, r-click on it and merge
it into the registry

You will then need to reinstall any burning software that you *do* use.
It is usually possible to get Easy CD 4 - only - to work if you leave
out Direct CD and certainly leave out TakeTwo. For that first download
the update of your version to 4.05 from the www.roxio.com site.

Install your version - Easy CD Creator only - and at the end, exit but
do not reboot until you have run that upgrade. That usually works: if
not you will have to clean off again and get something else
