Interesting. First time I've seen any sign of a "news" section relating to
Oo. Thanks for the post.
BTW. You're not aware of a news or history site for Oo are you? I'm buggered
if I can find one.
Regards.

Well, there a little history here:

http://about.openoffice.org/index.html#history

You can request access to a mailing list here:

http://about.openoffice.org/index.html

under "Guidelines for Participation"

or here:

http://www.openoffice.org/mail_list.html

I tried to start a newsgroup for the program by posting to alt.config,
but was told that the StarOffice newsgroups handled discussion of OO.o.

I don't quite buy that, but oh well.

If a person is willing to get on mailing lists, this looks like the way
to go all right.

Not sure what mailing lists you refer to. The newsgroups there
are, in fact, ports of email lists, but no subscription is
necessary, only verification that ones email address is valid.

I was going by what the site said:

"This is what Gmane offers. Mailing lists are funneled into news groups."

But also there is this:

"There are currently 7,733 mailing lists subscribed to Gmane, with a
total of 33,503,933 messages."

so they must be doing something right. 80)>
