Registry recovery

After recovering a damaged registry manually by replacing the corrupt
files with files from the config directory I could boot up fine but
could not get into the system resore to fall back to an earlier safer
registry. When you run system resore it does nothing but bring up a
blank window so it looks like im stuck with this rev of registry which
is fine accept for when I try to go to a secure sight such as login
into hotmail it just sits there and never logs in.

Any suggestions out there?

When you "treated" the registry evidently all restore points ere deleted -
as happens if System Restore function is stopped.

Hi,

Try running System Restore from Safe Mode.
Restart your computer, and then press F8 during the initial startup to
start your computer in Safe Mode.

Log on to your computer with an administrator account or with an account
that has administrator credentials.
In Safe Mode type or paste the following command in the Start - Run box
then press Enter.

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
