Microsoft Visual Basic Issue - Registry Corruption

B

Bob

I was recently "invaded" by Comet systems Spyware. It
seems to have corrupted my windows registry as everytime
I open Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Office, I receive the
following messages: Microsoft Visual Basic Compile Error
in Hidden Module - autoexecnew. The second message that
pops up is Microsoft Visual Basic Compile Error in Hidden
Module DISTMON.

From what I have been able to ascertain, Comet
Systems/Comet Curser modifies the registry to allow
systems information and keystrokes to be collected and
transmitted via the browser. In fact, it was Norton
Personal firewall that alerted me to the attempted
browser highjacking.

I think I finally eliminated the Comet program via Ad-
aware and Spybot but my regristy is still corrupted. I
tried doing a Windows XP Home edition system resore but
it is not working so I assume it was disabled as well. I
also tried system repair to now avail. I also did a
complete system restore but it did not correct the
registry. I was told that it is necessary to use DOS to
reboot and replace Windows to eliminate all files from
the hard drive. That is unfortunately something I am
unfamiliar with.

I also tried Office 2000 repair and then did a total dump
and reinstallation but with the registry corruption, the
messages simply reappear after the office installation.

Is there anyone out there with suggestions on how to
repair the registry? If not, can someone provide guidance
on how to completely reformat the hard drive? I even went
to the library looking for reformat information. This is
a subject that is sorely overlooked.

Thanks

Well this has nothing to do with the registry. There is a template with faulty code in it. If word I know how to fix but I'm but a specialist in Excel.

But in Word go Tools - Tempates And Addins, this lists the global addins. What's there?

You could try to uninstall Office, go to Start > Run > regedit and
delete the keys referring to Office, for example
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\

Reboot and reinstall Office.

If still no joy, and you want to reformat and reinstall see this site

Your wasting your time. Setup won't remove files it didn't put there.
