If you just installed Defender and your are trying to scan using the scan
button, it's not going to work. It's a bug! Go to Defender's toolbar at the
top, click the arrow next to "scan" and select "quick scan" from the options.
That might work. If it does, you can try a full scan later. That takes much
longer, and a scheduled quick scan should be sufficient under normal daily
circumstances.

I, too, got similar - scanning of "C" complete, during "D" just cranked on
and on for 24 hrs. Tried to stop scan, got 00x80070057. Exited complete,
restarted, got 0x80240016???? Looks like we need to move on to other programs.

There is a new version (build) lf Defender available TODAY at the download
site. It has fixed some of the problems with the old one. It is better to
install the new version over the old one instead of uninstalling the old one
first. The installer for the new version uninstalls the old one and the
definitiions, and it will ask you to update the definitions again. That
worked fine for me, but some have needed to go to Windows updates to complete
them. The new version does not seem to have that same scanner button problem.
Use the scan options arrow in the toolbar on Defender. It should work to
perfection, I hope. The defalt setting is for a quick scan, and you will
need to reset all your other general settings. It is definitely an
improvement.
