The system cannot open the device or file specified - Error code 2

I was unable to install windows defender (WD) on my windows 2000 machine
after I have received a notification message in WD that the latest version
of WD beta is available. I tried to uninstall the existing version but I
was still unable to re-install the latest version of WD beta.

The error msg is:
"The system cannot open the device or file specified"
The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.
This may indicate a problem with this package. The Error code is 2755.

Any suggestion on how do I solve this installation problem? Thank you.
