problems with picture boxes online

Dear Sir or Madam,

I can surf the Web with Internet Explorer 6.0 OK -- but
photo and non-text boxes do not open.

Instead, I get an empty white box with a smaller box
containing a red "X" in the upper left corner.

If I manually click on View, Encoding and then set the
option to Western European (Windows) the photos and non-
text boxes usually appear.

But the setting doesn't stay -- it often reverts back to
Western European (ISO) or Unicode(UTF-8). (I have no idea
what these mean...)

This a recent problem. For most pages, I can manually
correct it by clicking on Western European (Windows). But
I have to do this everytime I choose a new page.

I have DSL service through SBC Yahoo! and the Internet
Explorer settings are the default browser settings for it,
I think.

At any rate, there are no pictures or non-text boxes that
appear there either, and I can't find any option to
restore them.

I'm not sure what can be done to restore settings so I can
consistently view photos and non-text images on all of my
browsers -- Internet Explorer 6.0 and SBC Yahoo! DSL 4.0.

Any assistance you could provide would be greatly
appreciated.

Cordially,

Mike Frazier

I tried everything ... then I got my images back when I uninstalled the Microsoft Critical Update Notification Manager...
Control Panel .... Add + Remove..

Worth a try
