Problems using "file and settings" transfer wizard

I just built a new PC, and the primary hard drive from my old PC is now a
slave drive on my new one. My new User name is also different from the old
one. Now, I'm unable to open the old "documents and settings" folder for
that user, and the "File and Settings Transfer Wizard" says the folder
doesn't contain any information, though I know otherwise. Is there any way
to open/retrieve those files?

It sounds as if you need to take ownership of your old files.
Take a look at these articles for more info:

Note: If you are running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, you
must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an
account that has Administrative rights to have access to the
Security tab. To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

As for using the FAST wizard, make sure your XP installation is
running at the same service pack level as the old installation.
Also, point the wizard one level up from the USMT2. unc folder
when you browse for the location.

Good luck

Nepatsfan is right. You need to take ownership of the files to get access to
them. Did you run the FAST wizard before installing the drive and save the
files and settings? The wizard has to be run twice. Once logged in as the
user you want to transfer from and again while logged in as the user you
want to transfer to.

Thanks! That took care of it.
