Several possibilities come to mind here.
# A Windows 98/XP browser conflict.
# A Printer name problem.
# A server name problem.

Instead of browsing for the printer, try entering
\\XPcomputerName\PrinterShareName. Be sure to use the actual share name of
the printer - this may not be what you expect - eg. hplaserj.

I do not know if this is related or not, but I have suddenly lost my network
connection between my xp machine and my standard 98 machine. I made two
changes and I am not sure which one caused the problem. I did a Microsoft
update on my xp machine and I also added a new Norton 2006 anti virus
program. I have a 3 computer network. My SE98 machine is still on the
network but my standard 98 is now gone and I cannot recover it. I am
wondering if my Microsoft update may have intentionally knocked the standard
98 machine off. Is this possibe? Could it be that Microsoft wants to make
standard 98 completely obsolete?

JD,

Anything is possible, but I'd start with the Norton program. Also, you would be
doing everybody here - including yourself - a huge favour by starting a new
thread, with unique and descriptive title.

Thanks Chuck. I am new at this so I wasn't sure where this concern would fit,
but you are right. The problem was with the Norton, after disabling some its
features, my 98 machine became visible on the network, although I may have to
reinstall the internet connection sharing program, because it does not seem
to be working the way it was before. Thanks.

JD,

Disabling third party firewalls isn't always the final solution either.

If the personal firewall is not the immediate problem, it could be an LSP /
Winsock / TCP/IP problem.
