Pricelessware banner contest

I would like to have a contest to create the PW banner for 2006. It
might be fun for some. If there are folks interested, it wouldn't be
terribly difficult to administer. I would be willing to collect
submissions and display them and at a given time collect, count, and
report the votes.

To allow time to coordinate the site colors to the new banner, I think
the final banner should be selected by Nov.11.

If anyone is interested in submitting one, please do so and I will set
up a page at PWH to display them immediately. Voting could be from
Nov.9-11

The current banner is 400 x 85 in size in .gif format. The image format
should be a standard one, gif, jpg, png, bmp and size should be close to
the current one I think. The font should be Black Chancery as it has
been the PW logo font for years.

Anyone interested, submit away. :)

Is "Black Chauncery" a free font?

Yes, Black Chancery (not Chauncery) is a free TrueType font. I can send
it to you if you can't find it closer to home.

I have a submission ready - where do I send it? I don't think I'd get any
thanks for uploading it here as a file attach.

As a side comment, submitters should perhaps be reminded that not all of
us have colour printers (yes, even in this day and age!) and that colours
should be selected that will not all print the same in monochrome.

Black Chancery.the author is Doug Miles. This site lists it as Public
domain/GNU GPL
http://www.dafont.com/en/author.php?author=165

Many, many "free font" d/l sites "claim" it is free, but I haven't yet
found a definitive answer to your excellent question. Obviously just
because some download sites claim it's free doesn't necessarily make it
true.

Maybe someone else can give more info.

If you don't have web space to upload it to, you can email it to me. Send
it to webmaster at the domain in my sig. I will display it on a page at PWH
no later than tomorrow and post the url to it here.

I'm interested in the contest, but I have zero ability in the graphics
department.

Can only free fonts be legally used? I've never considered something
like this.

No, no credit (it wasn't even me who made the logo; I just held the
contest). But I would of course like it very much if the freeware logo &
symbol became the Pricelessware banner too :)
