I want to know what programs WON and how much they won. I would
like the the results to be posted in this newsgroup.

As to weather this information should be in the website(s) with
the program details, I think it should be left for the decisions
of the webmasters.

If they decide to provide this information, they could choose if
they want to have this information on a seperate page or in the
program details, or they could choose to ask the participant
opinions about it; but I think it should be the decision of the
webmasters.

I don't care which program won, I care which program works well on MY
computer and with MY skill level. You simply have to try more than one
program. The PWL is a good starting place, but winning the vote doesn't
mean it's best for me or you...

not measure how much "better" one program is than another. This, like
the Oscars, is a popularity contest, so the actual vote tallies are best
not disclosed IMO.

Quite right, such numbers can at worst be misguiding and misleading.
What we have now - as it is - is a decent selections of pretty good to
very good apps. If someone thinks numbers will leaves of only the very
good, think again.

I go for #1.

True. But odds are that the favorite is best for the majority.

Such a simple request. I don't use it that much so I really don't have a
stake in this like some folks but it is just that much more knowledge about
a program. Why would anyone be against this? No one says you can't try all
of them if you want your machine that cluttered up. Personally, I would try
the most popular and if that works, stop there. If it doesn't, I can always
try the next one down.

ok, here is another EXAMPLE! for the thinkers in this group.

(example 3)

if 2 firewalls get the same vote count! nobody can see this currently!.
Which one deserves to be ontop? whatever you decide the visitor
would still be mislead into believing the one listed ontop was
the winner, but that is not the case, is it!, really it was a draw!

the only way to fix this is to include the vote count so people
are aware they got the same amount of votes. and it would be nice
to know if a program won by 1 vote or 50 votes also.

You are implying in option #2 that the PL vote will be kept hidden
form the public. This is plain false, and to put this as the leading
text for a vote makes it as biased as it can get. "Have you ever

This gets my vote as the worst call for votes ever in this group,
despite some stiff competition from the past. Even without the
ridiculously loaded phrasing, why would anyone want to raise such a
vote while we're in the middle of nominations? I can think of one or
two reasons, given this poster's history of concensus-building
attempts.

#2 is not even possible. The vote totals must be posted to the group
each year, and they are.

In years gone by. . . at least one program received *NO* votes and was
selected as Pricelessware. . . 2 vote "winners" are more common. . .

The programs selected for the *2004* Pricelessware List received 6 to 87
votes in the PL balloting.

Apps were nominated and "lost" (were not selected) even though they
received as many as 11 votes. Apps were nominated and "won" (were
selected) even though they received only 6 or 7 votes.

IOW - you can't tell the PL2004 "winners" by the vote count. . .
