Genna Reeney emailed me a few days ago regarding the Pricelessware site.
She wants to change the site to a database format. We have had some
email correspondence.

IMO further discussion should be in the newsgroup.

I have many unanswered questions. . . What are the *details* of the
proposed plan: who, what, why, where, when, how - especially who. . .

There are related issues that need discussion - I'd like to resolve this
issue/proposal first if we can. . .

Don't bother, unless you *really* want to fight it.

I'm quite sure there will be no lack of volunteers to help you with a
transition to a new site. For what it's worth, I've installed and used
about 7 different cms sites and ultimatly settled on e-xoops, now named
runcms, for it's ease of use and security.

Whichever solution you choose, if it is php/mysql based, I'd be happy to
help where I can. IMO you've done a great job with PW and I hope you
continue with the "job". :)

If I was Susan I would say that it is enough work keeping the current
system updated. If somebody else wants to convert the current site to a
database system they are welcome to do it.

Until the new system is working the old system has to be kept rolling as
before. I don't think Susan needs another job to take care of on top of
the fantastic job she already is doing.

It could take months or years to get the new system working so well that
it can replace the old system.

Certainly a new site is one possibility if there is no response from
Genna or if this can't be resolved to the satisfaction of newsgroup
participants.

The web pages are quite portable in their *present* format. All that's
required is PHP capability - and about 10 MB of web space (don't know
about bandwidth requirements).
Whichever solution you choose, if it is php/mysql based, I'd be happy to

Thank you. :) I have certainly been looking forward to acting as point

My ISP offers me 15MB of webspace, and it is php/mysql based. I just
spoke with thec support, and I am allowed to "donate" this page.

Susan, you have my e-mail address, so if you are seriously thinking of
switching, let's chat.

Seems to me it is her site and she takes care of it. No one forces any of
us to go to the site. I do not pay anything to access the site, so I should
have no valid input on what the owner(s) want to do with the site.

You want an awful lot for something you leach from.

Thanks PuppyKatt.

I have limited access to the PL site - that creates problems (I was
unable to upload to the site for several days last week).

Lack of access and lack of communication are a *really* bad combination.

In the absence of any word from Genna, I think we need to seriously
consider a change of site.

Comments from the group please.

Change. Despite the bickering that happens in here like all of Usenet
I always thought this was a group thing. The fishy domain registration
and her clandestine maneuvering without asking the group is not right.

Susan,
Could you e-mail me with all that's gone on that has led to this. I
understand your situation being the webmaster with your hands tied
behind your back, but I can't really give any input without some
background,

I have no idea what's going on here but that's a normal condition for
me, anyway. I can certainly find some webspace, if that will help.
More importantly, Susan, it's unfair that you should be burdened with
a huge amount of work on top of what you've done, and are doing, on
behalf of the group. I'll be pleased to help in any way I can. It's
only fair to warn you, though, that I'm a registered HTML cretin and
must be kept far from any code that is intended for any purpose other
than laughing at, hysterically.

In any other capacity, though, the offer's serious and meant to be
taken up.

Ditto. The day to day work is substantial. I don't see how Susan finds
the time that she currently expends.

Not knowing what's going on shouldn't be the normal condition for this
newsgroup. IMO we cannot remain in a state of limbo until Genna makes an
appearance. We must proceed - with or without her.

The start of nominations for the next PL is not all that far away. There
are things I need to do to - web pages to set up. There are discussions
that must be held - decisions the group needs to make between now and
then in regard to the voting and selection process.

The present state of uncertainty is unfair to *everyone* - we need to
move ahead. A new web site looks like the next topic of discussion. Do
we want one site, mirror sites, a network of sites with different parts
hosted at different locations (there's a little of that now). . . We
may need a new domain name. . .

I appreciate the offer of help (I *will* find a way to put you to work). :)

Whoa! Let's back up a bit. Genna's done a great deal for the group. I
appreciate her efforts and I'm sure her plans are intended to benefit
the group.

The problem is *communication* with the group - or rather lack of
communication. . . the Pricelessware web site *is* a group thing and
decisions about is should be made in the group. . .

I think the Pricelssware List *will* have to move from the present site
- IMO as we leave we should thank Genna for providing that site for
several years.
