patch package could not be opened

Hello all,

I was running Office BETA 2003.

I just got my new full version of FrontPage 2003 in but
when I went to install it I was informed to uninstall the
BETA version of Office first. This I did or at least I
thought I did.

Now when I attempt to install the new software I am
getting the following message and the installation stops
dead.

"The patch package could not be opened. Verify that the
patch package exists and that you can access it, or
contact application vendor to verify that this is a valid
Windows Installer patch package."

I still have the program listed in my "Add Remove
Programs" area and I am unable to remove it.

Any ideas? Help would be appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

Howdy.

You can try various combinations of installing and
removing the Office 2003 beta and the Technical Refresh
(or whatever you installed) but this is a long shot.

Another long shot is to delete all the program files and
registry entries you can find, run RegClean, and then try
installing again.

But when this happens to me, despite the preceding, I
usually end up formatting the disk and reinstalling
Windows.

For the future, my advise is to *never* install beta
software on a machine you would regret formatting.
Ininstall is typically the buggiest beta feature of all.

Best of luck.
