OT - Just to say thanks

S

Steven Burn

I know this is OT but I wanted to say thankyou to a couple people.

First of all, I asked about getting alt.comp.freeware in OE and someone
mentioned individual.net (sorry, can't remember who you were). I just wanted
to thank whoever it was..... individual.net is absolutely great (found 7
other NG's on it that I've been looking for).

Secondly, I wanted to say thankyou to YK for helping myself to "iron out" a
couple bug's in my Index.dat Suite software (well, mention them to me and
describing them in detail). As I do not have XP, and YK has, he has been
kindly offering information and workarounds to any and all problems that
Index.dat Suite had with NT based systems, and more than that, he also
kindly suggested some welcome additions/modifications that I would never
have thought of.

So thankyou to whoever it was (re mentioning individual.net) and a huge
thankyou to YK and the rest of you ladies and gents.

Oks,. enough rambling, I have work to do, and a meeting to prepare for.

Oh well, there's a lot of others, OE is far and away the worst, and (I
forgot till I was snipping your post) the only one that top posts by
default, which is why you can't see the previous bits of the thread,
because ICBA to rearrange it all to make sense...

still, whatever floats your boat ;-)

I really tried to use it. I even figured out its convoluted filter system.
It is nice that it filters on headers and its only plus. It looked and
felt like an old Win3.1 application. XNews that is.

"It looked and felt like an old Win3.1 application"

nah, I loved 3.1 ;o)

The main problem I had with it was it's complexity with adding/editing
subscribed NG's, and the fact it took ages to load the lists (on my PC
anyway).

Yo Steve, how about trying OE-Quotefix? It will automaticaly place your
cursor in the correct spot for posting to newsgroups. Plus it fixes several
quirks in OE and has nice colour level viewing for following replies.

It will satisfy these top posting criticisms.

Say bye bye to OE, you won't ose it again

I've tried most newsreaders and go back to OE every time. Tried Xnews again
this week. It lasted one evening. Maybe I'm just used to the OE interface
having used it for so long but it just seems so straight forward to use
compared to the others.

I thought the cursor is placed at the top so you can scroll down through a
message, snip the bits you don't need and then reply at the bottom. Other
news readers do the same thing.

In MSOE (and its imitators), the cursor isn't merely placed at the top; but
additionally these things add an amount of white space / newlines above the
quoted text. The combined effect of this is to lure the user into jumping
right into typing at the top of the screen, with quoted text neglected &
squooshed underfoot.

I'm afraid I'm with you on this one. I've tried several readers in the past
and always come back to OE.
