Index.dat Suite (update)

Just to let everyone know, there's an update to Index.dat Suite (well, 2
updates actually).

Those of you with NT based systems have a choice of either, updating to
v2.4.3 OR v2.4.4 (both released today, the latter released around 5 minutes
ago). 9x users are asked to go straight to v2.4.4 as v2.4.3 (due to my
stupidity) does not allow deletion of the swap file, even though the
Settings options say otherwise (I'd added the option, but not coded it into
the program, so it wouldn't actually do anything..... at all).

Description:

Index.dat Suite is a rather unique program that allows you not only to
delete the index.dat files, temporary internet files, temp files, cookies
and history, but it also allows you to view the index.dat files on your
system.

The ability to view these files was only added in v2.0 after we decided we
did not like having to use ad-ware/spyware programs to do it, nor did we
like going through the files manually.

Index.dat Suite's current features include;

View index.dat files
Delete index.dat files
View and delete Temporary Internet Files (TIF)
View and delete Cookies
View and delete History
View and delete Temp files
Auto-generation of batch file to assist in deleting the index.dat files in
DOS.
Deletion of swap file (9x users only) - NEW!
Optional defrag after file deletion - NEW

Additional Notes:

Help file's have also been updated as of 14:45 19-12-2003 to coincide with
the above and are available from the download page.

Huge thanks to Kenny (YK, YoKenny) for updating the help file's for me.

Hi Steven...like the update with the swap file included(98/se).Just
thought id mention however that if possible it may be worth putting a
note about where the swap file is located?.If windows manages the swap
file its located at the default setting within the programme (C:\windows
\win386.swp) , however if you manage your own virtual memory its in C:
\win386.swp.Obviously these are basic setups, and not covering those that
move thier swap file to a seperate partition.I know you can browse to the
swap file within settings but thought that perhaps for those that are new
or not sure about where its located then maybe a little note or something
by the swap file option maybe needed?
Thanks again for the update :)

bassbag, thanks for the comments.

I've currently got it set so it automatically goes to c:\windows\win386.swp
if a path has not been specified. However, I'll add the note in the next
update as suggested.

Thanks again )

Another update has just been uploaded due to a bug that was reported
approximately 10 minutes ago.

Bug reported caused "Run-time error '91': Object variable or with block
variable not set" when left clicking on listbox BEFORE searching for
index.dat files. This has now been fixed as of 11:11am.

Bye the way, what happens when one has multiple index.dat files ? I
took a look at your program the other day but as it was taking so long
searching I gave up on it.

< URL etc > snipped due to above top posting >

Multiple index.dat file's are fine, however, if you mean, the search for
viewing the contents took a while, Index.dat Suite was only developed to
allow one index.dat file to be viewed at any one time (trying to view
multiple items will result in a never ending loop).

The search time on your hard drive depends completely on a: how much ram you
have, b: how large the hard drive is.
