OE startup delay caused by Messenger?

G

George Hitz

In recent days, I have been in the ie6_outlookexpress newsgroup trying
to find a solution to my OE startup delay. One of the MVPs who was
trying to help me suggested I try here. Search that group for 'George
Hitz' to find the string over there.

Am running an Armada laptop with W2K SP4 and IE6 SP1.

When I click on either the desk top, quick start or executable Outlook
Express icon, it takes 2:00 minutes for the inbox to show. Repeatedly.

Event log shows no recent errors.

I have tried Messenger SERVICE running AND stopped, no change.

Registry search finds no entry FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541
(I have two OTHER working W2K systems where this key is present)

I do not have MSN Messenger installed. I am not sure what "Windows"
Messenger is - perhaps this is a culprit?

Anyone have any ideas? ..or further clarifiations needed?

Would appreciate any help on this.

Thanks,

George

The 2:00 minute delay persists. All activity beyond getting to the
inbox behaves as expected both before and after running the dot reg
file.....

Does anyone know of a tracer program - freeware or $$$ - that might
shed light on what is getting in the way of my OE starting?
