Messenger won't open

Holly

Every time I try to open Windows Messenger I get an
hourglass for a few seconds and then nothing happens. I
can open MSN Messenger just fine. Also, when this
started happening my hotmail also started freezing up.
Whenever I open it it freezes for about 30 seconds to 1
minute and then it unfreezes and lets me scroll and open
messages and stuff. I found MS Knowledge Base Article
325717 which talks about these symptoms but it says it
happens when a non-administrator tries to open Messenger,
and I'm an administrator. The article also says that you
will get the following error event:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10010
Date: 4/30/2002
Time: 11:30:57 PM
User: DOMAIN\Username
Computer: Computername
Description:
The server {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541} did not
register with DCOM within the required timeout.

I get that error event but the server listed is {1BE1F766-
5536-11D1-B726-00C04FB926AF}. I don't know what to do.
Also, since this has been happening, the other XP user
account on my computer has been totally freezing up.
Outlook Express is really slow to open and Internet
Explorer sometimes takes forever for the homepage to
load. I'm assuming that all these problems are related
b/c they all started about the same time. Sorry about
the long message. Hopefully somebody's reading this and
can help. Thanks!

Greetings Holly,

To fix this, download and run these .reg files:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablewindowsmessenger_user.reg
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/enablemessenger.reg
After running these, reboot and then try opening Windows Messenger again. This should also
solve your Outlook Express/Internet Explorer issues as well.
