NTVDM KERNEL: error message

Hi all,
I desperately need help with this problem. When I try to
start some programs, a message box states:

NTVDM KERNEL:Missing 16-bit system module

Please re-install the following module to your system32
directory:
COMM.DRV

What is this 16-bit system module and where can I get it
to install to my system? I am using Windows XP Home
Edition which was pre-installed without a CD-ROM disk
from my computer's manufacturer. Any advice would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
