No Volume Control

I am not able to control my volume from the Master Volume applet. The
slider goes up and down, but volume remains constant. I click Mute All and
volume remains constant. If I adjust the slider for Wave while a wave file
is playing the volume goes up and down. It is just that the Master Volume
doesn't do anything.

Running XP Pro with all the latest updates on a 1.8GHz P4 with onboard Intel
sound.

Any ideas why the Master Volume doesn't work?

Do you havew more than one sound card or device? Lets
check...

Go to the volume icon on your system tray and open it
up...it will display the mixer, then go to
properties....OR...go to Control Panel > Sounds and Audio
Devices. make sure the audio card you are using is
selected. Look at all the tabs and options. The General
tab has an checkbox option for showing the icon in the
sysetem tray if you want it.

Play with these setting and see if that helps. Uncheck
the master, Apply then go backk and reset it --who knows?
