XP Volume Control

S

Simon

I run XP SP2 and IE7.

Occasionally I have to run a .ram file in Real Player (from the BBC). If I
have to adjust the volume of such a file from within RealPlayer it plays
havoc with XP's volume settings in that it changes the Wave slider bar
setting but not the Volume one. Problem is that even when I exit Real, XP
retains the amended Wave setting ( even after re-boot) which then
necessitates a trip into Start/Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Volume to
put it right again.

Is there any way to stop this incompatibility beween .ram files and XP
Volume/Wave, please?

Hi, Simon. First of all, don't you have a shortcut for the volume control in your Tray? If not, go to Control Panel and double-click Sounds and Audio Devices. Click the Volume tab and click the Place Volume Icon in the Taskbar option. Now you can quickly access the volume properties. As far as the Wave settings that you described, I think that this is normal behavior with some audio programs. Just readjust the sound level in the program before exiting. Hope this helped.

Simon,

In most cases you can choose either Media Player or Real Player, but not always possible.
If possibly bypass Real Player altogether. When you run it, it adds the Real Updater to he
RUN registry key too; a 'real' annoyance :)
