NNTP access stops on all news servers

Not sure whether this is on topic or not.....
I had a problem some months ago where ALL NNTP access suddenly stopped at
round about 5.30 pm for several hours, leading me to think that the router I
use, (supplied and pre-configured by the company my wife works for) had some
sort of timer set up. That lasted for about two to three weeks, then as
mysteriously as it started, it stopped.
Now it's started again, this time at between 12.00 noon and 12.30 this
afternoon. the story is the same as before - I cannot connect to ANY news
server, whether Microsoft, Mozilla, or my ISPs news server. I can surf the
internet, send and receive email, and post this, but cannot connect to ANY
news server. It's not OS specific as it happens with both Windows and Linux,
and with any news reader that I care to use.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this as it is getting REALLY REALLY
frustrating.
My ISP news server and access are all up and working, I don't connect
through a proxy, so neither I nor my ISP have any clue as to why this is
happening.

HELP!

Interestingly, I've just got connectivity back. I re-set the router
(unplugged from the mains for 30 secs and plugged back in). Whether that was
the solution or not I can't tell.....
