Hi, I just reformated my computer and the multimedia audio controller is
showing up with a yellow ? in the devices. I tried to update the driver but
it says the proper software cannot be found. I looked at previous posts and
something was said about finding it on the computers website...my computer is
TAGAR and I'm unable to find their website...

This is most probably happening because there's a chipset driver for the
motherboard that you haven't installed. There should be a basic driver CD
that came with the system, or you can determine the motherboard make and
model (it's usually screen-printed on the board) and from that you can find
the manufacturer's site and get that driver set. Installing that is the
first thing to do after a Windows reinstall.

If you don't have luck with finding the chipset drivers you need, another
posibility is to go to the Windows Update site (start/all programs/windows
update, at the top) and letting the site look for drivers you need. It's in a
list of sections of update, on the left.

It's large and rectangular and all the parts are mounted to it.

Alternately, programs like Belarc Advisor will show you the motherboard
model number without you opening the case, and may also tell you what the
chipset is.

I'm having a similar problem where I have no sound - the multimedia audio
controller has a yellow question mark next to it - I have an HP 512n. Can you
help me out too?

Hi, Mike....having the same problem. You mentioned to, " ... go to the
Windows Update site and letting the site look for drivers you need. It's in
a
list of sections of update, on the left." I could not find the part of the
site that would look for the drivers I needed. Can you tell me where it is
relocated? Thanks.

Access the Windows Update "web site" from within the Internet Explorer
menu bar "tools." This will access the web site's ActiveX controls
and scan your PC.

However, it is not generally recommended to use these drivers since
they can cause more problems than they fix.
