MSN Messenger Voice Problems

Rick

Prior to installing a new wireless Linksys router I had no problems
communicating with both video and voice using camera mic. I can no longer
get my voice to work nor can I hear the other person. However, I still have
video and we can both see each other. I previously had a non-wireless
Linksys router. I've tried using a direct cable connection from the router
without the wireless card, I've turned off QoS Packet Scheduler and nothing
seems to work. I am using MSN Messenger ver.6.1.0211. The Audio Tuning
Wizard seems to work with the built in camera microphone, I can record my
voice with other programs.

I've searched through the postings, but no luck...does anyone have any
suggestions...this is really frustrating
Much appreciated...

I have exacly the same problem. I'm using a linksys
BEFSR81-CA and was able to have voice/sound in earlier
version. Since 6.1, I get video only and that's all - I
tested it on Win98, Win2K and XP - same symptoms. When I
test for video/sound/speaker in the TOOL menu of 6.1
version ... everything is working. For my router, there
was instructions if we wanted to use Messenger we had to
open some ports using the FORWARDING config in the linksys
router - Did not change a thing either and Yes, UPnP is
enabled and QoS is disabled.

Ditto here..using a netgear router. Frustrating to have
the audio problems.

DC
try this:

get latest version of direct x and latest firmware for your router -
ensure it is UPnP compatible. MUST DO THIS.
in xp go to add/remove programs.
add/remove windows components.
scroll down to networking services.
ensure box is checked.
go to "details"
ensure "universal plug and play" is checked.

Try again

Make sure others you speak to do this if they have routers.

make sure you are not running windows messenger instead of MSN 6.1.
I did this and got it to work - but some days it did not work at all -
check MSN 6.1 - help - systems status - as well

I have the same problem which started about 2 months ago. Audio/video is successful with home country but voice is no go with international contacts. Both ends use XP and I have a Dlink router. I wonder if servers are at fault
