MSN Messenger in one PC and WIndows Messenger in another

Mandi

I have a network with a NAT router. Using a voice call between MSN Messenger
in one PC and WIndows Messenger in another causes the voice call to end
immediatly after starting. Using in both PC's similar messenger works
fine.Can someone advise please?

Thanks

Mandi

Greetings Mandi,

This is behind the same network right? If so, the router itself might be trying to translate
the requests to external IPs stopping this from working properly (this is more known on the
Windows Messenger side, as router companies were targeting that version of the protocol).
Using MSN Messenger in both should get around that.

I have a network with a NAT router, too. The router is not UPnP.
In my case, if MSN Messenger on one PC initiates the call (and Windows
Messenger accepts it on another), the voice communication works fine.
If Windows Messenger initiates the call (and MSN Messenger accepts it),
the connection fails.
Using in both PC's similar messenger works fine

Same here.

Hi,

You'll see this because MSN Messenger has far better support for non-UPnP routers and it's
still using a protocol which is compatible with Windows Messenger so it works.

If you send out an invitation with Windows Messenger and don't have a UPnP router, it simply
will not work period.

Update:

Good news, with the latest build of Windows Messenger (5.1.0701), it
works.
