MSN Messenger Behavior in Task Bar

Greetings,

I prefer an unusual taskbar configuration, vertical, quite wide (3
inches), on the left side of the desktop, auto-hidden, always on top,
it comes out when my mouse hits the left side of the desktop. (For
some odd reason I like to be able to actually read the
filename/application in each application's taskbar button, and can do
so when they are wide and stacked vertically.)

Problem is, MSN Messenger is a regular communication tool at work.
Whenever someone sends me a message, it pops out my 3-inch wide task
bar and therefore covers anything I was looking at or typing into and
MUST click on the messenger window to make the taskbar hide again. If
I happen to be dragging something to a spot in the left 3 inches of the
screen, unwanted things can happen if I let it go right after the
taskbar pops out.

Does anyone know how to make it so an always-on-top, auto-hidden
taskbar does not pop out everytime I get a messenger message?

Thanks

David
