reporting a bug in MSN Messenger

Eric

Using MSN Messenger 6.1, if you have "Display Alerts when
email is received" checked under the General tab, and a
user clicks on the alert checking their msn or hotmail
email account. This is where the problem occurs. If the
user signs out of MSN Messenger first but leaves their
email open, you cannot exit MSN Messenger from the
taskbar.

You can see this for yourself. When you receive a email,
click the alert where this will open your MSN email
inbox. Then sign out of MSN Messenger. If you are still
viewing your email inbox, try to exit MSN Messenger from
the taskbar.

You cannot and you'll receive the following error.

"There are other applications currently using features
provided by MSN Messenger. You must close other
applications before you can exit MSN Messenger. These
applications may include Outlook, Outlook Express, MSN,
MSN Explorer, Internet Explorer."

Although, you'll receive this message if you have Norton
2003 antivirus installed, you'll also receive this
message if it isn't checked. This seems like a common
problem with MSN Messenger.

Greetings Eric,

This really isn't a bug -- when you actually view your e-mail that you just received, you go
to the Hotmail website or MSN Explorer -- both of which use Messenger (to display the online
status of people that sent you mail). Even though you've signed out, Hotmail/MSN Explorer
are still attached to Messenger and as such, why you're seeing this message.
