More on the Pricelessware CD

S

SINNER

Well after a hell of a lot of clicks and some frustration, I have
finally completed downloading ALL of the freeware from Pricelessware.org
with the exception of Debian. It totals about 580 megs so it would fit
fine on a CD.

No, I haven't checked any of the agreements to see what is and isn't
distributable, nor do I intend to. I would be willing to supply burned
CD's of what I have to the Pricelessware Admin for distribution to
volunteers.

The CD will require some editing but each category has its own folder
and each app has its own folder within the corresponding category. In most
cases ZIP and EXE are available where provided.

I did find one guy that is now charging for access to all his software
so that one program is also not included. EasyCleaner by Toniarts.

He got jealous when seeing PCMag's manoeuvre, decided to imitate? Bah.
PCMag at least had some very special, quality utilities.

Wow -- is that a recent change, or what?

The page has been changed since 22 January (which is when I downloaded
EasyCleaner); at that time, it page had nothing about "joining" like
it does now.

You could always post an ISO of the CD to the binaries newsgroups....

True, but I would not want to associate it with Pricelessware without
the permission of the Admin. Still sort of waiting for this to iron out
before I jump the gun. The first big piece is done though.

I also added a vanilla boot floppy for Debian which has the base system
but requires an internet conection to complete the install. Got the link
off debian.org. Before adding this Debian was not on the CD.

Someone really ought to quote a relevant excerpt here. For those who do not
read netnews online.

Why don't YOU do it instead of standing on the sidelines saying "somebody
ought to...."

Okay :)

Message: As you might know, I'm really a poor student and I get no
pay for what I do. It was about 2 years ago when Danima offered
toniarts.com for free, they only wanted a small ad-space. A very good &
generous offer. Recently Danima has lost large amounts of money because
of the high bandwidth needed by toniarts.com. So they are figuring out
ways that they could turn this more profit again without me having to
pay for all this. I understand Danima fully, I just hope that this
doesn't bother people much...

I think a solution of some kind can be found in these few months. I'll
"always" have the other page as well at

EasyCleaner 2.0 and stressed the point it was a free program, the link
on their web page points to http://www.toniarts.com/ecleane.htm which

Sounds super. Would you like me to post a proposed method of
distribution and other details for review, comment, revision etc. by ACF
participants or would you rather do that yourself?

IMO so far there seems to be approval in *concept* . . .

the devil may be in the details . . .

A show of hands to see how many people are willing to do some of the
burning and distribution would be helpful too. The idea will only work
if there are volunteers.

David's done a large part of the legwork. If there's an ISO
which can be burned I'd be glad to join a Pricelessware
group of burners. If not officially related to
Pricelessware, then a loosely based group of a.c.f. burners
could coordinate a collection based on the Pricelessware
vote.
The ISO would only need to be updated once per year after
the official vote is finalized.

Let's do it.

I like the idea. I can do some burning and dist. My free time varies
greatly so I can't promise 100's per week, but glad to burn what I can.

btw the <nick> has nothing to do with burning cd's or fire :)

I just posted my thoughts in a new official ;) [PL] thread with a call
for comments. If the consensus is favorable (and it seems to be so far)
we can go for it.

I agree.
Let's do it.

So far we're moving in that direction.

I not gonna ask . . . ;) Yes I am, red hair? :)

I have no idea how great a demand there might be but IMO the idea is to
do as much burning as *you* want to do regardless of demand . . .

with luck, a *lot* of people will be willing to burn a *few* copies a
week and it will all work out. . . :)

LOL no, as a young man our click of buddies we all had nick names, T-
bone,Bedro,Herk,Flint,Humpy, etc and mine wound up being burnr as one of our
crew had a heavy german accent and his pronunciation of "runner" sounded
like "burnr". I've had that nick for many, many years. Have been using the
nick to post to usenet since Oct.2000 and irc before that :)

Hiya Karen,
I'm afraid you'll have to forgive my stupidity. I was

see your reply (if that makes sense)...... wasn't until I checked my blocked
