I have changed my computer and moved from Windows 98 (and Money 97 upgraded
to Money 2001) to Windows XP. Although my old Money files are not read-only
when I copy them to the new computer they are read-only ??
I have read article ID 178850 but it does not seem to answer the question
and the options I have tried do not let me load transferred / backup files to
Money 2001 on my XP ??

You might want to post to the Money newsgroup. Here is a list of MS

Where are you copying them from? From a CDR perhaps? That would make them
read-only. Of course, once you have them on your hard drive you can change
the file attributes.

If you used a CD-ROM to copy the files, the files became read only when you
copied them the CD-ROM by design. If so, after you have copied the files to
your new computer, select the files, right click on the selections, select
Properties and clear the Read Only attribute.

The nt backup program for Windows XP is not compatible with the backup
programs provided with Windows 98.

Hi Don,

Thanks a million for that information. I have tried it but ...........

On my new XP system under My Documents I have a My Money file transferred
from my 98 system (Properties 2.25MB with NO attributes ticked i.e. not write
protected) yet when I try to 'open' it or 'open it with' I get sundry fault
messages including possibly not allowed symbols in file title, read-only
file, re load your Money program, etc.

I really am at a loss to know what I can try next; I am not a natural
computer expert, obvioulsy !. But I can certainly follow helpful instructions.

Cheers - Arturo
