missing shdocvw.dll file

When I turn on the computer and try to log in, I get an error message

Application has failed to start because SHDOCVW.dll was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

I believe this started occuring after I did a Windows update off of the internet and the pc was restarted.

It's hard to do much at all on the computer now, but I can get to some things which do run via the Taskmanager window.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can get a copy of this missing file ( or might it be recoverable on my system somewhere)?

Thanks

See this page, especially the section on if Windows displays a blank desktop
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...port/kb/articles/q225/0/40.asp&NoWebContent=1

Did this one last Wednesday night on a computer. Computer would start to a
blank desktop. Change the shell= line to shell=progman.exe then was able to
fire up taskman.exe. (CTRL ALT DEL was unavailable, Windows did absolutely
nothing)
This will let you get to Add\Remove Programs to utilize the Repair option in
IE.
