shdocvw.dll application error when closing IE

G

Guest

Every time I shut down Internet Explorer it creates an error report. I
click on details and the report always mentions shdocvw.dll.

I'm using Windows XP Pro with SP2. IE Version 6.0.2900.2180xpsp2.
Does anyone know how to fix this error?
Does anyone know what the SearchAssistantOC browser plug-in is? I noticed
this entry was missing (when comparing to another computer with IEsp2) in the
list of my browser plug-ins, and the file shdocvw.dll is associated with it.
Please advise, thank you.

Hi Amanda :)

See the explanation of this program here:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_132577.htm

Be aware, your Anti-Virus won't detect all types of warez, Trojans, worms,
etc. So even if you run it, and nothing shows up, it does not mean your
system is clean. It takes a series of programs to fully clean your machine.
Follow the steps here:

Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:

also....

Download and install HiJackThis. This step is one of the most important.
Follow all instructions carefully. This prograrm should be run in Normal
mode. Make sure you have a current version.

Jan,

Thanks for your response.

The computer on which I am seeing the shdocvw.dll faulting app error message
doesn't have the Search AssistantOC browser plug-in showing up. The browser
doesn't have this ad-ware program on it. How do I troubleshoot this IE error
then?

Hi Amanda :)

Here are a few things that you might try. .

You can try this first and see if it helps:

Open an ms-dos prompt window (Start>Run>) and type the following (one entry
at a time), and press enter after each line. A message will appear stating
that these have been registered successfully.

regsvr32 Shdocvw.dll
regsvr32 Shell32.dll (this command only for Win2000 and XP)
regsvr32 Oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 Actxprxy.dll
regsvr32 Mshtml.dll
regsvr32 Urlmon.dll

If still no joy....

This error can be caused by several issues. Your file could be corrupted or
damaged and needs to be replacedYou can download a replacement, but, before
installing, check to be sure it sit the same version or it could cause other
problems.
