Microsoft Anti Spyware (Beta)

Bob Adkins

Why does this smell like a fox in the henhouse??

Just let MS try some funny stuff! They will be sued for a billion dollars!

It's the little guys that take risks and usually get away with privacy
invasion, because they have little to lose. MS has so much money they can't
get away with anything shady. They're under a stronger magnifying glass than
any company in history. We probably won't find anything, but we need to keep
looking... just in case. ;)

All seriousness aside, I don't suspect this software is intended to be a
profit center. I suspect it's intended to rehabilitate Microsoft's
reputation. I could be wrong!

Says the sheep, coming back for more ...

Says the paranoid, as he adjusts his tinfoil hat.

There are dozens of web pages and thousands of people totally dedicated to
destroying Microsoft or grubbing some of their money. They would be
delighted if MS did something illegal. Me? Since I do not make my living
from MS, I really wouldn't care. It would be fun to read about though. :)

This is the recently acquired program from Giant. Not sure if it's going to
be Freeware, but I would think so. Haven't tried it yet!

Thanks for this, Bob!

D/L'd it, ran it... It caught two bugs that neither Lavasoft or Spybot
had caught. And, just because I am a little paranoid about MS, I
double-checked to make sure these were on my system -- they were; and
double-checked to assure that they were bona-fide spyware - they were.

I apreciate the "heads up"!

Wow. I've never seen so many reviews so fast on Fileforum.

http://fileforum.betanews.com/review/1105022593/1/view

It's rated a 4.4 out of 5. Even the people who are suspicious of MS are
rating it highly.

Looking in the Advanced tools, I really like the "Running Processes" where
it gives you more info than the standard Task Manager.

Nothing strange there, that's the default start page, and the program comes
with preloaded standard settings. Easy to change.

You have this nice innocent belief that rights in law are distributed
equally, rather than up for grabs to the highest bidder.

Did you read all the EULA?

This free version will expire on 31st July 2005 or until a commercial
version is released, whichever comes first, without further warning. See
Terms 1 & 2 for Microsoft's words.

'Enjoy' it for free, while you can......

Cheers,

Roy

And, <snip> They were???

Well, Ray...

Thanks for the "heads up"! I had no idea God was even sick, let alone
dead. Will send flowers and condolences after I'm done chatting with
you. So, what's it like.. I mean since you've taken over the job of
being god and trying to make everybody dance to your tune?

Oh, and Ray... <wink, wink>, Since you're now this awesome,
all-knowing, all-powerful deity whose chief pleasure comes from
throwing your weight around, I'm sure you already know what those bugs
were now, don't you? We'll just let it be our little secret.

I was puzzled by one thing... I never expected god would end a
sentence with "???". Could be you don't know Jack, either?

For having a name like "Ray", you're not very bright now, are ya boy?

It's a nice, tight little piece of code, there Bob and I'm thankful
you gave us notice about it!

It spotted two bugs on my machine that neither Lavasoft's Ad-Aware nor
Spyboy S&D had found...

Substitute "not paranoid" for "innocent".

There are perhaps 100,000 very smart jo's out there, right now, watching
this program like with a suspicious eye. One slip, and MS will be in the
headlines or in court. I don't think MS would be stupid enough to load this
program with anything that's not kosher. Er... surely they wouldn't. :)

Hey, I may be wrong about this. If I am, I will come back and admit it.

If it turns out that the program is not spyware (or whatever you are worried
about), will you step up and admit you were wrong on this one? :)
