Greetings,

It appears to be crashing on the Real Time Communications (RTC) component. Narrowing exactly
why this is occurring could be difficult, you may simply want to upgrade to Windows Messenger
5, which uses a newer version of RTC:

I'm having the same problem. I've tried uninstalling
messenger in an effort to stop the repeating error
messages that plague my screen but that doesn't stop
them. I thought it was a virus but after 5 hours of
scanning and rescanning with three different security
programs nothing evil was found. I reinstalled messenger
hoping that would patch up the problem but it got worse.
After installation and reboot it instantly fills my screen
with a second error message which gleefully informs me
that "nobody on my contact list is available". About 10
of these are created before I can clear them off. Then I
can begin to clear away the 6 or 7 instances of the
the "Messenger has encountered a problem". I'm at work
now so I can't post the error address. I'm running XP on
an 8 month old puter. Needless to say, this is a mess.
Any advice for me?

Hi,

Yes, I too upgraded to version 5, and am still having the
problem. Also unable to retrieve/send mail through
Outlook. I thought it might be virus related, but have
scrubbed my system from top to bottom with no
improvement. If anyone has heard of this one, and has a
solution, please let me know.

Thanks!
