Messenger Has Encountered a Problem...

T

Tim

....and needs to close---

I'm running Windows XP

AppName: msmsgs.exe AppVer: 4.7.0.2009 ModName: rtcdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1106 Offset: 0000ae3f

I have uninstalled, reinstalled version 6.2. I have
tried to uninstall it hoping to get rid of this problem
that way but, of course, that is useless. I tried to
disable the startup for messenger in msconfig but that
had no effect. I also ran a registration cleaning bot
through it but no dice.
This this is ruining my machine. It pops up the error
screen every minute or so. I can't even push them to the
background. If I reinstall Messenger it spams me with 30
or 40 "search for contact" windows that gleefully inform
me that my 'contacts' are not online and to try again
later. Earlier this evening I ran my Windows disk back
through the install process hoping that might help. No
luck. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

OK! I have the answer to this one now!
Control Panel/Administrative Controls/Services/Messenger
Then find the options panel and the disable controls.
Then disable it. Reboot and you're fixed. At least I
was. I hope it works for you too. =)

Hi!
I am having the same problem with the same message and
details regarding the error. Have tried to install the
update 4.7 and it says Windows messenger is running and
it can't finish the install. It is not running in task
manager. Any ideas? I now have to check my mail through
another on-line account as Outlook Express freezes up.
Did you find an answer that worked for you?
