Manage "Add-ons" in WINXP SP1, with IE6

Hopefully this post is in the right zone, I am trying to find a method of
seeing what addons are linked to my system with WIN XP SP1 running IE6. I
know that with XP SP2 there is a "Add-on" manager in the tools menu but I
cannot see this in SP1, so how can this information be sought on SP1 please?
I think it could be something simple but maybe so obvious I cannot see it.
Don't want to upgrade to SP2 just yet either as system becomes unstable, can
anyone help ??

Thanks in advance.

Truthfully - I think you should concentrate on fixing this statement: "...
Don't want to upgrade to SP2 just yet ..."

It's the "just yet" that really gets me. Windows XP SP2 was released back
in 2004. This is 2008. When is "just yet" going to end?

What becomes "unstable"?

How do you prepare for the update?

- Do you perform a full system backup (or at least your important files)?
(Making an image of the system as-is is probably the best...)
- Do you check for BIOS updates?
- Do you check for hardware updates from the hardware manufacturer's web
page(s)?
- Do you check for application updates from the software manufacturer's web
page(s)?
- Do you do a full scan for viruses/trojans/worms with your favorite and
updated antivirus application?
- Do you do a full scan for adware/spyware/malware with several different
antispyware applications?
- Do you uninstall unused applications through add or remove programs
control panel?
- Do you perform a full chkdsk and then follow that up with a
defragmentation?
- Do you run Disk Cleanup to get rid of all but the last restoration point
right before you upgrade?

After all that, I would perform one extra image of the system (because it is
not going to get cleaner in an SP1 state than that likely) and then install
SP2 from the downloaded "IT Version" - staying disconnected from the
Internet untill the update is done.

Thanks for the reply.

The system is my girlfriends and it has failed to load WIN XP SP2 twice. The
second time I was able to save all the important family files before the
attempted upgrade. The option to download is there ready with Windows Update
but I am again very reluctant to do it due to the same problem repeating and
having to reformat the hard disk to recover the system. In essence though can
I see and manage the Addons in SP1 as I have asked in the post ?

Thank-you.

As for ActiveX controls, they can be managed using SpywareBlaster custom
ActiveX blocking. You can also install a utility program called ShellExView
which allows you to disable BHO's and other shell extension objects.

One reason your computer becomes unstable after installing SP2 could be that
it is infected with spyware. Most users have had acceptable results after
installing SP2.

Thanks Allan, I shall try the link you suggested (work PC is group protected,
no access to that site) for the Addons later on.

Then I will approach the SP2 upgrade problem after following Shenan's
comments earlier. I need to find out how to take this "image" of the PC first
and making sure I have the correct files backed up.
