Manage Add-ons - how?

O

Old Enough

I have an issue with Windows Media Player not being used when I try to open a
mp3 file in MS IE.

When I go to "Internet Options->Programs->Manage Add-ons", Windows Media Player
is not on the list.

I think I may need to update ActiveX, but without WMP being on the list I don't
see how.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Windows Media Player is probably listed in Add-ons that have been used by
Internet Explorer. If they are Disabled they are not loaded. If they are
not loaded they are listed in history.

IE | Tools | Manage Add-ons | Click the V next to Show |
Click on Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer |

Click on the items in the list one at a time and select Enable.

"Add-ons are sorted into two groups in the Show box. Add-ons that have been
used by Internet Explorer is a complete list of the add-ons that reside on
your computer. Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer are only those
that were needed for the current Web page or a recently viewed Web page."

I have *ALL* of the WMP Add-ons Disabled and I can still listen to mp3s, WMP
opens separately instead of inside IE.

Make sure that you have Windows Media Player file associations set
correctly. Especially for mp3.

Open Windows Media Player | Tools | Options |
File Types tab | Click the Select All button |
Click Apply | Click OK

Select All
[[Click to select all the file types in the File types list.]]

[[If you install other multimedia playback programs on your computer, they
may interfere with your Player file types settings. For more information
about setting file type ownership in other multimedia playback programs, see
the documentation that came with those programs. ]]

[[If you want to make another player the default player for a specific file
type, clear the check box for it in the File types list. ]]

[[If a selected check box is dimmed, Windows Media Player has only partial
ownership of the file type. Multiple file extensions are assigned to the
file type, but the Player only plays some of those extensions by default. To
give the Player full ownership of a file type, double-click the dimmed check
box. ]]

Setting file type options help...
Start | Run | Paste this in the box and click OK...

hh wmplayer.chm::/htm/player_overview_formats.htm
or
hh wmp10.chm::/htm/player_overview_formats.htm

Supported file types help...
Start | Run | Paste this in the box and click OK...
hh wmplayer.chm::/htm/supportedfileformats.htm
or
hh wmp10.chm::/htm/filetypesoptions.htm
