IE7 manage add-ons

Not sure if this is an IE7 or Vista home basic issue.

In manage add-ons in IE7, the 'Delete ActiveX' button is grayed out for all
entries. Earlier this year, the button was active and could be used to
delete selected files. I have administrator access.

How is this changed so I can delete unwanted ActiveX?

Also, how do I made the display of the columns in 'manage Add-ons'
permanent? I can right click on the open box and select 'SORT by' 'more' and
'Choose details'
This allows the columns to be selected but does not become permanent. The
next time that manage add-ons is opened, only the first column, Name, is
displayed. Again, this was not the default some months ago. What changed?

Thanks in Advance,
Oppie

Hi,

To my knowledge, there is no way to permanently alter the list order.

As to ability to activate the delete button, it will not be active if the
currently selected control is running or loaded into memory. The process
must be halted before you can remove it. This is why I commonly tell people
to access this dialog by closing IE and getting to it through the control
panel.

Did as you said and closed IE7 then went to control panel to open internet
properties and then Add-ons.
Went through the list and still the only option is to enable or disable the
add-ons. (IE7 + vista home basic)
As a comparison, I checked this at the office where I run XP Pro and it has
similar entries for which the Delete ActiveX button is not grayed out. This
also has all the columns permanent in the add-ons window (not just name).
Perhaps this is only a feature of the professional or uplevel versions of
the OS.

I am resisting 'upgrading' Visa Home basic until I get a darn good reason to
do so. The feature list *that I have seen thus far* on the uplevel versions
don't do anything for me.

Thanks,
Oppie
