The biggest nuisance when I used two files for "software" was that I
had to search both files to see if I had info about an app. Searching
one file is *much* easier. (I have more than one Treepad file open
fairly often - depends on what I'm doing - but they're about different
things.)

I wonder if something like Inforapid would help; it has the facility to
search more than one file in a directory.
If you navigate to the files and do multiple select with CTRL, they appear
as 1|2|3 in the window.

Ive just tried it and it works a treat.

Of course I don't need more than the standard treepad search tool!

YMMV ;)

I've used Info-Rapid Search & Replace to do a Treepad "search and replace" on my old box (I don't
think I've used it for that since I got this computer). I love Info-Rapid Search & Replace but found
it slow on a *large* Treepad file (it goes like lighting on large groups of smaller files). hmmm. .
.. ISTM the slow part was when it was doing the replacements. . . IIRC the search was fast. . .

Neither do I (I was just responding to Little Girl's question). :)

Gawd, 13 meg of search AND replace! I only ever seach and look.

I think your computer has a strong grounds for an action for abuse

Please don't report me to the SPCC. ;)

I seem to be having an attack of CRS. I know it wasn't "THE" ;) Treepad file but a smaller one. I
think it was my Treepad recipe file - that's well under one MB. I remember that the search and
replace - which involved *many* replacements - was much slower than I had anticipated.

Hey there,

Yup. :) Feel better now? You've still got lots of running room. . .

Crossing fingers, keeping things backed up, and adding to her as we
speak. :)
The biggest nuisance when I used two files for "software" was that I had to search both files to see
if I had info about an app. Searching one file is *much* easier. (I have more than one Treepad file

I see what you mean now that I've been working with (and searching
through) two files at once. And using an outside searching tool would
work to get information, but it won't tell which node the information
is in the way the Treepad search does. Hmmm, maybe it's time to buy
more RAM just to make sure I can keep letting this thing grow. :)
I agree with you about trying to reduce the file size - doing that takes as long or longer than it
does to add new info. I save more "snippets" now (rather than full posts) - that helps to slow the
growth in file size - and I try to do *some* pruning and weeding as I add new info.

Yeah, I've been pruning and weeding a bit, too, and also noticing
places in my tree where I must have been in a hurry and just added
stuff without sorting it. So I created an _UNSORTED_ branch in any
node like that and threw those in there to be gotten at later (with a
search, of course). :)
