Joining Domain Problem

G

Greg Zielinski

To anyone who can help-

I am trying to join a W2K computer to a W2K network. When
I try to join it I get the message:

"The following error occurred validating the name "domain".
This condition may be caused by a DNS lookup problem. For
information about troubleshooting common DNS lookup
problems, please see the following Microsoft Web site:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=5171

The specified domain either does not exist or could not be
contacted."

This box has a static IP address, and I have entered the
domain controller IP address in the DNS table.

I do not know why I can't join this domain. Anyone got
any ideas???

Thanks

As the message suggests, this is a problem trying to find a DC in the
specified domain. The forward link specified in the event has good
troubleshooting info -- I would recommend you walk through it to see
if that solves your problem.

That is an excellent link and it is certainly going to save me a lot of
typing (actually hunting and pecking) in the future.
